Point Ephémère

Point Ephémère is a center for artistic dynamics located in Paris 10th district, in the former construction material store, Point P, on canal Saint Martin. Its plan combines artist residencies, public spreading and active intervention in the city. It is lead by the team of Usines Ephémères which has been converting escheated buildings into temporary artistic spaces for twenty years.
This center for artistic dynamics was opened on October the 13th, 2004. It sets up necessary means for artist residencies (visual artists, musicians, dancers, scenographers) and tools for public recognition of their work.
The building is occupied by the fire station of Château-Landon, by the 10th district’s association dwelling, along with Point Ephémère.
Since its opening, Point Ephémère has been accommodating artists in space devoted to residency (4 artist studios, 1 dance studio, 5 music repetition studios), and has been offering a large programming of exhibitions, public openings, concerts, evening performances, conferences, workshops, unusual happenings…

HISTORICAL

Point Ephémère occupies 1400m2 of the former building commonly called Point P.
Delivered in 1922, its first owner dedicated this “art-deco” architectural set made of brick and concrete, to trade. That former dock which took part in the industrial life of Canal St Martin has distinguished itself since its opening through its progressive nature.
Entrepreneur Suchet actually fits it out with a kindergarten and a ball room, in order to respond to the needs of his employees and of the inhabitants.

ORGANISATION

Point Ephémère is lead by a team of twenty persons or so (coordination team, technical team, catering team…)
The bar-restaurant is managed by the association.
The 4 artist studios and the dance studio are set for residency. Artists are chosen during committees composed of professionals from each disciplines, for a period of 6 months at the most.
The music rehearsal studios and the dance studio (for lessons) are offered for rental.
Programming and actions of Point Ephémère are discussed during regular meetings with a follow up and a valuation committees composed with members of the 10th and 19th districts councils, animation center directors, association presidents, elected oensof 10th district city hall and of Paris city council. This leading body (around 25 persons) that has an advisory power enables to check the relevance of acts. It renders possible a real mediation work.
